Center for Artificial Wisdom is a research nonprofit investigating reification in machine intelligence—how AI systems treat abstractions and internal models as fixed, literal entities. We use a four-quadrant intelligence map to interpret deployed systems, research claims, and recurring failure modes across two orthogonal dimensions: reification and consciousness.
Our default position is a null hypothesis: today’s frontier AI is abides in quadrant 3 (Q3) of the intelligence map—reifying and non-phenomenal. Claims that a system belongs in quadrant 1 (Q1) (reifying + phenomenal), quadrant 2 (Q2) (non-reifying + phenomenal), or quadrant 4 (Q4) (non-reifying + non-phenomenal) are treated as extraordinary and require extraordinary, convergent evidence. We are developing diagnostics that can support or challenge these classification, but they are not conclusive on their own.
